The Transport, bears witness to human suffering. The imagery of human beings transported by railroad car to an extermination camp is drawn directly from the murder of European Jewry by Nazi Germany during World War II. For the artist, these events have a personal meaning. Much of his extended family was lost in the Holocaust, and his parents were survivors of that tragedy. He sees this work not just as a remembrance, but as a reminder of the crimes against humanity that occur today.
